The San Damiano Foundation produces films that showcase the active and contemplative dimensions of the spirituality of St. Francis and Clare of Assisi, along with the Franciscan concern for social justice, peace and non-violence. Initially, the foundation’s top priority is to produce fundraising films for Christian charities aiding the world’s poor. We hope to put the power of film at the service of those helping the weak, who in turn need help raising funds and attracting volunteers.

A vital part of the way the San Damiano Foundation puts the power of film at the service of the poor is screening our films at churches, high schools and universities across America. Gerry Straub is available to speak and screen a film at your church or school. Call us for details at (818) 563-1947. To see the locations of Gerry's past and future speaking events click here.

In the News: Hollywood and poverty: Filmmaker puts the power of film at the service of the poor -- National Catholic Reporter, November 3, 2006
"It's a warm September evening, and the idyllic streets of downtown Burbank are quiet. I walk with filmmaker Gerry Straub past the corner of Magnolia Boulevard and Hollywood Way, and he points in the direction of Warner Bros. and NBC studios, where 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' is taped, just a few blocks away..." Lord, make me an ambassador of your peace.
Where there is hatred, help me foster love.
Where there is injury, help me bring pardon.
Where there is doubt, help me foster faith.
Where there is despair, help me bring hope.
Where there is darkness, help me shed light.
Where there is sadness, help me bring joy.

O Divine Master, help me remember that it is far better for me to console rather than be consoled; to understand rather than be understood; to love rather than be loved. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
